Wyldewood Cellers Winery
Known as the Heartland’s Premiere Winery - Wyldewood Cellars Winery is family owned and operated – in the tradition of Kansas farm families for generations.
Having won over 130 National and International Awards for their wines, they are the most awarded winery in the State. Spiced Wine created at Wyldewood Cellars was featured and served at the 2002 Olympics in Utah.
Begun in Dec. 1994 – by the brother and sister team of John and Merry Brewer – Wyldewood Cellars quickly climbed the ladder of recognition as a serious competitor in International Wine Competitions. John Brewer was eventually asked to become a judge at these competitions, because of the success he was having, and he is now the only international wine judge in the area. What began as a way to “make the family farm pay”, and to bring John’s family back to the kind of rural life he grew up with in Kansas, suddenly blossomed into a whole new agricultural industry . Farmers and ranchers began growing the Elderberry plants as a cash crop, and Wyldewood Cellars purchased all they could grow. People in the rural areas gathered the wild fruits and berries to sell to the winery, and soon there were many different varieties of wine being produced.
The original site for the winery was in a turn-of-the-century building in the middle of Mulvane, Kansas. Jan. 28, 1999, there was a fire in town that encompassed the winery among three other businesses, and everything was burned to the ground. In November of 1999, the whole family gathered for Thanksgiving, pitched in to put in the flooring, paint the walls, set up displays, stock the shelves, so the new building was finished and ready to open for business the day after.
While Elderberry products are the mainstay of the winery, they also have wines, jellies, syrups, and even some fudges - made from other fruits and berries.
“The Largest Jelly and Syrup company in Kansas“ is another title Wyldewood Cellars holds. All of the Jellies are made the old-fashioned way, one small batch at a time, and with only the best ingredients – no corn syrup or cheap substitutes.
For those who do not want a jelly with sugar in it, they offer spreads made with pure honey instead. The Elderberry Juice Concentrate made by Wyldewood Cellars is the only pure concentrate of Elderberry being marketed at this time – with no added sugar, alcohol, or additives. The overwhelming evidence of health improvements with Elderberry is very gratifying to everyone who helped create the concentrate. John Brewer was originally a research scientist – with a Doctorate degree. He developed the Concentrate primarily to make the benefits of Elderberry available in an affordable form for everyone.
