Mad Cow Disease
Are we really safe from it in the U.S.A ?
Mad Cow Disease AKA bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), is caused by a misshapen or mutated protein molecule (prion) which replicates itself in the brain. Not a virus, bacteria or parasite, not even a living organism, it is indestructible, it cannot be destroyed by heat (even when turned to ash), chemicals or radiation. Furthermore, this protein seems to have the ability to jump the species barrier, at least in mammals. In other words when consumed it can be passed to humans from cows or vise versa in most any species.
Spongiform encephalitis is a disease in which the brain develops tiny holes throughout the tissue, until the brain resembles a sponge!
Other aliases:
- AKA, Chronic wasting disease in deer and elk.
- AKA, Scrapie in infected sheep.
- AKA, brain-wasting illnesses.
- AKA, vCJD variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease (Human form).
- AKA, Human Prion Diseases.
- ALL AKA TSEs (transmissible spongiform encephalopathies).
The whole problem began when cows were feed a high protein feed made with bone meal in order to improve their health and fatten them quickly. Bone meal is animal meat and bones, a product made from left over animal parts obtained from slaughter houses (cow cannibalism). Cows were not meant to eat meat in the first place, much less eat their own. They are grazing animals! Many, animals in the United States are still being feed this enhanced bone meal diet in order to fatten them up quickly.
TSEs are diseases believed to occur roughly at a one in a million rate per year in all species of mammals due to de novo mutation (unknown mutation). When an animal is feed the meat or bones of another animal who has this disease they intern develop the disease. This is the general theory. Spongiform encephalolitis is known to occur in humans who eat their own (cannibals)! A study sponsored by NIH (National Institute of Health) research was done shortly after the Mad Cow outbreak, in which a tribe of primitive peoples living in the primordial rain forests of Papua, New Guinea had developed a disease they called Kuru (trembling disease) which was found to be Mad Cow disease. These primitive people didn't eat cow. However, they had been involved in the ritual consumption of their deceased relatives (including brain matter) for centuries. The closest blood relatives were given the most important body parts (pieces of brain). They believed that doing so was in honor of the dead and in some way transferred the life-force and knowledge of the dead to the living. This gruesome discovery lead scientists to a better understanding of how the disease works.
With respect to plasma products (blood transfusions) and vaccines, human transplants, animal to human transplants, these all can transmit this protein! Drugs and vaccines, including those given to millions of American children, have been made with products that could carry mad cow disease, in defiance of repeated requests from the Food and Drug Administration, the New York Times reported:
"The nine vaccines include some regularly given to millions of American children, including common vaccines to prevent polio, diphtheria and tetanus," the paper wrote. "They also include the anthrax vaccine, which the government requires for soldiers serving in the Persian Gulf."
Doctors are not required to report cases of Creutzfeld-Jakob disease to federal health officials. Elderly victims may be misdiagnosed as suffering from senility or Alzheimer's. There is thought to even be a link in other psychological problems. SEE THIS www.cyber-dyne.com/~tom/psycho_4-5-96_nyt.htm
CJD (Creutzfeld-Jakob disease) mainly afflicts the elderly, vCJD appears among younger people, almost certainly from eating prion contaminated meat. The gruesome death starts with mood swings, numbness and uncontrolled body movements. Eventually the mind is destroyed.
Concerning Creutzfeld-Jakob disease. Three Americans under the age of 30 who had Creutzfeld-Jakob disease ate deer and elk meat when they were young, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The deaths were unusual since CJD rarely strikes young people, although in England most of the victims of CJD were young.
Chronic wasting disease has struck elk and deer in Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and Oklahoma. In Canada, authorities destroyed 1,700 elk last year after they were exposed to the disease. Scientists are investigating whether chronic wasting disease could spread from elk or deer to humans.
"In fact, Canada imported 2.8 million kilograms of blood meal, meat scraps, bone meal and waste meat between 1996 and 2000 from European countries since shown to have mad cow disease outbreaks (Source: Statistics Canada, International Trade Division)."
How are the deer and elk getting this disease? Deer are often baited. Hunters will set out cow feed to attract them. Also the Forestry service in an attempt to prevent starvation among elk and deer (due to deforestation or extremely cold winters) are feeding them this bone meal enhanced feed!
What are the risks of American developing the same widespread problems as Briton?
Well, The Toronto Star, January 20, 2001, reported that recent inspections in the United States revealed that of 9,500 feed mills visited, less than 2,700 were abiding by feed regulations to protect against BSE! Deer and elk are almost never checked!
Since the FDA instituted the feed ban in 1997, the agency has been making the rounds, yet many researchers believe that this BAN in not being enforced. Sheldon Rampton, the researcher and author of "Mad Cow USA," agrees that the government has not tested enough cattle to assure that the disease is not here. In his book he documents cases where ranch-raised mink were fed with U.S. "downer" cows (animals that died from unknown causes) developed the mink version of TSE, implying that some form of BSE had infected the cattle they were feed. He said if U.S. officials tested more cattle in this country, they would more than likely find the disease. At the time his book was published, only about 12,000 cattle had been tested here over the past 11 years, while France in they had tested more than 20,000 animals in the past year alone.
Globalization of both BSE and its accompaning CJD?
Animal waste meat (bone meal) not only for animal feed, but human consumption, has been imported from Briton to the United States and over 100 countries for 20 years prior to the outbreak! More info here www.mad-cow.org/UKCJD/CJD_news38.html
Milk products SAFE?
Can TSEs be in our milk products? Well, most of the worlds leading scientist think not, but some are still in the process of testing to eliminate any doubt. This is from The Guardian, The UK's most popular newspaper website:
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Agriculture said that the inquiry would cost £800,000. It followed a recommendation by the spongiform encephalopathy advisory committee (Seac), set up by the government to monitor the brain-wasting disease.
"Milk is safe but this research is to put it beyond doubt," the spokeswoman said. "It is a precautionary measure and previous studies have shown milk is safe."
Free range meats
This is an animal feed only grasses and natural feeds (hay and grains) and given no hormones or drugs. With worries escalating about mad cow disease and other problems associated with factory-farm raised meats, free range meats are becoming increasingly popular, just check the growing selection at your local health food store. Many resturants are now serving free range meats. They can also be ordered over the web.
Alternative protein sources
Many foods are high protein, below is a list of foods and supplements.
Now, for all the Vegetarians out there! Think you are safe do you! Especially if you grow your own vegies. Bone/blood meal is in many popular organic fertilizers! OK, folks, guess what you are feeding your dogs and cats? LEARN to READ YOUR LABELS!

Your Cholesterol Analysis
Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is manufactured by your liver and also found in foods of animal origin. Plants, unlike animals, do not need cholesterol and thus contain none. The body produces all the cholesterol that it needs to function normally. Additional cholesterol and saturated fat from food only serve to increase your total blood cholesterol. A blood cholesterol level of 150 or less is desirable; 200 or less is acceptable.
Because cholesterol is a fatty substance and not water-soluble, it does not float freely in your bloodstream. Instead, it becomes part of a ball of combined substances containing lipids (fats and oils) and proteins. These are called lipoproteins. The two major types of lipoproteins are called LDL and HDL. LDL, or low density lipoproteins, contain about 50% cholesterol.
A high LDL level is associated with thickening or plaque formation on the walls of the arteries, and is an important risk factor for heart disease. A value of 130 or less is recommended, preferably 90-100 mg/dl. HDL, or high density lipoproteins, contain about 15% cholesterol.
The function of this lipoprotein fraction (HDL) is to transport cholesterol to the liver to be destroyed, thus controlling the total amount of cholesterol in the blood. A value of 45 or greater is desirable because a higher relative value is associated with lower heart disease risk. Exercise, fish consumption, and cessation of smoking can help raise this value.
Click here to find out what other supplements help to lower cholesterol!
TRIGLYCERIDES are the storage form of fat in our bodies and in the bodies of animals. They are made up of 3 fatty acids linked together, which can be saturated or unsaturated. In general, triglycerides from animals contain more saturated fat than those from poultry, fish, or plant oils. The recommended level of triglycerides is less than 165.
A diet plan that is very low in cholesterol, total fat (especially saturated fat) and high in fiber will help improve all of these numbers. Weight loss, if over-weight, should be a primary goal of dietary therapy.
HOMOCYSTEINE CONNECTION
Research studies have recently shown that a substance called homocysteine can be an important risk factor for heart disease and that it is connected to a deficiency of the vitamin folic acid. The connection is described below:
Homocysteine is a naturally occurring substance that is a by-product of amino acid metabolism. (Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins that we eat which need to be converted, or metabolized, into new proteins for our body). When homocysteine is produced, the vitamin folic acid is needed to convert homocysteine into another amino acid.
Recent evidence demonstrates that an inadequate intake of folic acid results in elevated levels of homocysteine in the bloodstream. Elevated homocysteine levels are now considered to be an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. It is theorized to play a role in the build-up of plaque on the walls of the arteries, leading to a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes.
A recent study showed that elevated homocysteine levels in patients were returned to normal when they were given folic acid supplements. Folic acid is contained in many healthy foods, including almost all vegetables, beans, and enriched grains and cereals. If you want to be sure that you are getting adequate folic acid, you can take a supplement that includes the related vitamins, B-6 and B-12.

Fever Blisters and Canker Sores, What you should know!
Fever blisters and canker sores are two of the most common disorders of the mouth, causing discomfort and annoyance to millions of Americans. Both cause small sores to develop in or around the mouth, and often are confused with each other. Canker sores, however, occur only inside the mouth, on the tongue and the inside linings of the cheeks, lips and throat. Fever blisters, also called cold sores, usually occur outside the mouth, on the lips, chin, cheeks or in the nostrils. When fever blisters do occur inside the mouth, it is usually on the gums or the roof of the mouth. Inside the mouth, fever blisters are smaller than canker sores, heal more quickly, and often begin as a blister.
Both canker sores and fever blisters have plagued mankind for thousands of years. In ancient Rome, an epidemic of fever blisters prompted Emperor Tiberius to ban kissing in public ceremonies. Today fever blisters still occur in epidemic proportions. About 100 million episodes of recurrent fever blisters occur yearly in the United States alone. An estimated 45 to 80 percent of adults and children in this country have had at least one bout with the blisters.
What causes fever blisters?
Fever blisters are caused by a contagious virus called herpes simplex . There are two types of herpes simplex virus. Type 1 usually causes oral herpes, or fever blisters. Type 2 usually causes genital herpes. Although both type 1 and type 2 viruses can infect oral tissues, more than 95 percent of recurrent fever blister outbreaks are caused by the type 1 virus.
Herpes simplex virus is highly contagious when fever blisters are present, and the virus frequently is spread by kissing. Children often become infected by contact with parents, siblings or other close relatives who have fever blisters. A child can spread the virus by robbing his or her cold sore and then touching other children.
Most people infected with the type 1 herpes simplex virus became infected before they were 10 years old. The virus usually invades the moist membrane cells of the lips, throat or mouth. In most people, the initial infection causes no symptoms. The herpes virus, however, stays in the body. Once a person is infected with oral herpes, the virus remains in a nerve located near the cheekbone. It may stay permanently inactive in this site, or it may occasionally travel down the nerve to the skin surface, causing a recurrence of fever blisters. Recurring blisters usually erupt at the outside edge of the lip or the edge of the nostril, but can also occur on the chin, cheeks, or inside the mouth.
Several factors weaken the body's defenses and trigger an outbreak of herpes. These include emotional stress, fever, illness, injury, vitamin deficentcies , some foods and exposure to sunlight, many women have recurrences only during menstruation. One study indicates that susceptibility to herpes recurrences is inherited. Research is under way to discover exactly how the triggering factors interact with the immune system and the virus to prompt a recurrence of fever blisters. Keeping your immune system strong will help.
Many people who have recurring fever blisters feel itching, tingling or burning in the area 1 to 3 days before the blister appears. Applying antiviral herbal extracts such as Lemon Balm, Red Clover, and Tea Tree Oil , to the areas that tingle, burn or itch, may prevent the outbreak or at least lessen the severity. New research has shown Lemon Balm (Melissa Officialis), to have strong anti-herpes and antiviral properties. Studies also suggest Samento to be a beneficial internal treatment for all forms of herpes. Another natural formulation GSE, Grapefruit Seed Extract NutriBiotic Skin Ointment was created to combat the herpes virus. This formula contain Lysine which has been clinically shown to inhibit the life cycle of the herpes virus.
If fever blisters erupt, continue applying the antiviral and also apply an antibacterial extract such as Olive Leaf tincture or antibiotic tincture to keep an infection from developing. If you know sunlight triggers your outbreaks use an SPF 15 sunscreen on the lips and general area where the outbreaks usually occur before going out in the sun. Be careful not to touch the sores and spread the virus to new sites, such as the eyes or genitals. To make sure you do not infect others, avoid kissing them or touching the sores and then touching another person.
Some investigators have suggested adding Lysine supplements to the diet will lessen or stop the outbreaks. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug that prevents the herpes simplex virus from multiplying. Acyclovir creams were found to be only minimally effective. The long-term effects of daily oral doses of acyclovir are not known, nor are the effects the drug might have on an unborn child.
Little is known about how the immune system interacts with herpes simplex viruses causing fever blisters. The immune system uses a wide array of cells and chemicals to defend the body against infections. Scientists are trying to identify the immune components that prevent recurrent attacks of oral herpes. Scientists are also trying to determine the precise form and location of the inactive herpes virus in nerve cells. This information might allow them to design antiviral drugs that can attack the herpes virus while it lies dormant in nerves.
Currently there is no cure or vaccine for herpes simplex virus available to the public. Many research laboratories, however, are working on this approach to preventing fever blisters. For example, scientists at the National Institute of Dental Research and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases have developed a promising experimental herpes vaccine. In tests on laboratory mice, the vaccine has prevented the herpes simplex virus from infecting the animals and establishing itself in the nerves. However, the vaccine would be useful only for those not already infected with herpes simplex virus.
What causes canker sores?
Most people have their first bout with canker sores between the ages of 10 and 20. Children as young as 2, however, may develop the condition. The frequency of canker sore recurrences varies considerably. Some people have only one or two episodes a year, while others may have a continuous series of canker sores.
The cause of canker sores is not well understood. More than one cause is likely, even for individual patients. Canker sores do not appear to be caused by viruses or bacteria, although an allergy to a type of bacterium commonly found in the mouth may trigger them in some people. The sores may be an allergic reaction to certain foods. In addition, there is research suggesting that canker sores may be caused by a faulty immune system that uses the body's defenses against disease to attack and destroy the normal cells of the mouth or tongue.
British studies show that, in about 20 percent of patients, canker sores are due partly to nutritional deficiencies, especially lack of vitamin B 12-folic acid and iron. In a small percentage of patients, canker sores occur with gastrointestinal problems, such as an inability to digest certain cereals. In these patients, canker sores appear to be part of a generalized disorder of the digestive tract .
Women are more likely than men to have recurrent canker sores. Genetic studies show that susceptibility to recurrent outbreaks of the sores is inherited in some patients. Many women have bouts of the sores only during certain phases of their menstrual cycles. Most women experience improvement or remission of their canker sores during pregnancy. Researchers have used hormone therapy successfully in clinical studies to treat some women.
Both emotional stress and injury to the mouth can trigger outbreaks of canker sores, but these factors probably do not cause the disorder. Vitamins and other nutritional supplements often prevent recurrences or reduce the severity of canker sores in patients with a nutritional deficiency. Patients with food allergies can reduce the frequency of canker sores by avoiding those foods.
Mouth rinses containing natural antibiotics and anti-inflammatories reduce the unpleasant symptoms of canker sores and speed healing by preventing bacterial infections in the sores. Numbing ointments such as clove oil can reduce the pain and duration of canker sores. Canker sores are not contagious, so patients do not have a worry about spreading them to other people.
Other products to help both of these conditions are listed below.

Herb and Ailment Questions & Answers:
Q. Are there any herbal treatments to help me pass a large kidney stone? Will it be painful?
A. You may not have any pain! That's the great thing about this natural treatment! The hydrangea tincture dissolves the sharp points of the stone which are what causes the pain and bleeding as a sharp edged stone passes, then the marshmallow root coats the passageway with a demulcent (smooth, soothing and slippery substance) AND it coats the stone as it passes, all making for a painless passage.

Q. I have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years. Are there any herbs to make me fertile?.
A. The female infertility tincture contains False Unicorn and Lobelia, which should help. Sometimes the tubes are blocked, if this is the problem then U-O Clear should help to keep them clear. These things take time and can be a very tricky because anything you take to regulate your periods or become fertile can also cause premature expulsion of a fertile egg (miscarriage) or cause the fertilized egg not to attach to the endometrial tissue or lining. Use the fertility formula for 2 months, then stop taking anything, make sure you are not pregnant (test). If you are not pregnant try a stronger formula and the same procedure. Also taking prenatal vitamins while intending to get pregnant is a very good idea.

Q. I have a blood medical screening (drug test) for a new job coming up in 5 days and I may have cannabis in my system. What can I do to get rid of it?
A. The blood test is not as effective at detecting cannibis as is the urine test. Drug toxins can only be detected for 48 to 72 hours in the blood after consumption. For this reason the urine is usually tested for toxins instead of the blood.

Amazing Jewelweed soap works wonders for many skin conditions!
After the first use of the soap and spray products,
I knew that I was on the road to recovery. In fact, after only 24 hours the
painful red bumps and swelling on my skin already began to subside
noticeably. I am overjoyed with the product, service and overall quality of
the jewelweed soap and spray. Michael Carlin, Framingham, MA
I was covered with poison ivy with no relief from over the counter products. After doing some research on the Internet, I discovered the use of jewelweed to treat skin rashes. When I received your order, I immediately showered using the Jewelweed soap - what a difference. The relief of the itching was immediate. I then used the tincture spray and again, it quieted any remaining itch right down. This is a great product! Thanks Karen.
Saylee Merrow
It worked! I was skeptical at first but willing to try anything. My legs
were swollen, red and itching, with long lines of what appeared to be
blisters! Then I realized I had probably been walking in poison Ivy, with shorts on the day before! A friend told me about your Jewelweed soap, where to get it, and how it worked for him. As soon as I got your package, I used the soap and then the spray and by the next morning it was much better the blisters were gone! I washed with the soap again and sprayed again and by that afternoon it was like I never had it! Thank you so much for the quick delivery and for this wonderful product! My friend tells me it will even keep me from getting poison Ivy if I use it before walking in the woods, I will use it next time!
Thanks Again Clifton Jackson
