General Pregnancy / Herbs to Use in Moderation Information
No herb is completely safe for use in pregnancy, but many herbs can be consumed in moderate amounts with no concern for the safety of the mother or the fetus.
The FDA advises pregnant women refrain from using any herbal products before checking with their healthcare provider. Herbs and supplements are not government tested before hitting the shelves, and they can vary drastically in strength and quality from batch to batch and brand to brand. Herbs can also contain ingredients that could harm the mother and the growing fetus. Miscarriage, premature birth, uterine contractions, fetal injury and/or complication in the mother could result. Thus, it is essential for pregnant women to get approval of any herb, vitamin or supplement use from her physician.
