how is diindolylmethane different than indole-3-carbinol?

Indole-3-carbinol (13C) is the unstable and inactive precursor to diindolyl­methane. 13C first has to be converted into diindolylmethane while in the digestive tract in order to become active. The degree of conversion can vary significantly depending upon each individual?s stomach acid pH level, diet and other physiological factors.
