General Bone Spur / Heel Spur / Plantar Fasciitis Information
A bone spur, also called a heel spur, is a pointed growth of calcium on a bone. Bone spurs most commonly occur on the heel of the foot and are usually caused by extreme
stress on the heel bone. The condition, also called plantar fasciitis, results in inflammation of the plantar fascia, the ligament connecting the ball of the foot to the
heel bone. If not properly treated, the continual stress on the ligament creates a bone spur on the heel at the point of attachment. Plantar fasciitis is a common problem
among middle-aged adults and athletes.

Possible Causes of Bone Spur / Heel Spur / Plantar Fasciitis
Bone spurs are most commonly caused by extreme stress on the heel bone. Spurs can also develop from physical injury, obesity, high arches, flat feet, gout, lupus, muscle inflammation, nerve damage, arch strain, excessive exercise, prolonged standing or walking. In extreme cases the aggravation from a bone spur in the heel may cause tiny
tumors to develop at nerve endings, which results in severe pain.

Possible Symptoms of Bone Spur / Heel Spur / Plantar Fasciitis
Heel spurs cause severe pain when walking on the heel of the foot and are noticed most in the morning and after inactivity. Spurs are also aggravated by hard-soled shoes,
poor-fitting shoes and from walking or running on hard surfaces. Pain can be most severe after climbing stairs, standing on tip toes or after long periods of standing.

Possible Lifestyle Changes for Bone Spur / Heel Spur / Plantar Fasciitis
Drink only steam distilled water. Reduce intake of citrus fruits, especially oranges, to improve mineral balance. Eliminate alcohol, caffeine and processed sugars to improve
bodies own healing capabilities. A two week colon and liver cleansing may also be beneficial. Intermittent hot and cold foot baths and ice massages can also help. Wear
well-made, comfortable shoes whenever possible. Try bicycling and swimming, rather than running or walking, to lessen stress and strain on the feet.
