They are frustrated with the expensive, high-tech, disease-treatment approach predominant in modern medicine. The consumer is seeking complementary or alternative beneficial products."

An aging "Baby Boomer" population, educated in the benefits of nutraceuticals, has spurred the rocket-like growth of the nutraceutical industry overall. People have begun to look at food not only for basic nutrition, but also for health benefits. The market for nutraceuticals and functional foods is being driven by a growing consumer understanding of links between diet and disease, aging populations, rising health care costs, and advances in food technology and nutrition.
