In their book, Germano and Ramazanov report that Mongolian doctors have prescribed Rhodiola Rosea in the treatment of tuberculosis and cancer and that the species of arctic Rhodiola Root contains several phytochemicals including phenylpropanoids, proanthocyandiins, flavinoids, rosin, rhodiolin, salidroside, p-tyrosol and its most active ingredient called "Rosavin."

Several controlled studies have found no toxicities with the use of Rhodiola herb. Studies have found that Rhodiola Rosea increases Serotonin and Dopamine levels and reduces cortisol and glucocorticoid levels in persons under stress or normalizes their values. Rhodiola Rosea also is anti-mutagenic and significantly reduces cancer incidence in animals on cancer-producing diets.

Rhodiola Rosea also may repair the DNA in damaged cells, even in the bone marrow. Rhodiola Rosea may reduce stress on the heart and normalizes arrhythmias, irregular heart beat. Rhodiola Rosea may increase ATP production in all cells and may increases the sex drive.

Rhodiola Rosea is a powerful antioxidant and protects against lipid peroxidation. In athletes, Rhodiola Rosea increases endurance and performance and increases the muscle to fat ratio. Rhodiola Rosea improves memory and mental function.
