Apricot Kernel Oil General Information
Apricot Kernel Oil is rich in oleic and linoleic acids (essential fatty acids), and is known for its ability to penetrate the skin without leaving an oily feel. It is also a smooth and lightweight oil that has an excellent texture that is great for all skin types. It is also high in mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids, and contains Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and Vitamin E. Apricot Kernel Oil is obtained from the dried kernels of the Apricot tree. The oil is obtained by removing the pit from the apricot and cracking the shell of the pit in order to access the kernel covered by the shell. The oil is then pressed from the kernel. It is a very healthy oil because it is high in monounsaturated fat and contains no trans-fatty acids.

Apricot Kernel Oil Uses & Scientific Evidence For
Apricot Kernel Oil (Prunus Armeniaca) moisturizes and revitalizes skin, But preferred by many practitioners for the benefits that it renders for prematurely aged skin and skin that is dry and irritated. It may also be used as a cosmetic ingredient for softening and moisturizing. This oil is a popular massage oil and it is used a carrier oil when combined with essential oils for aromatherapy. Apricot Kernel Oil is commonly used to relieve itching, dryness, and inflammation of the skin and is for all skin types. The oil extracted from the kernel is a nourishing and lubricating oil.
The Apricot Kernel does have some health benefits of its own. The kernels can be used internally for respiratory problems, bronchitis and dry constipation. Apricot Kernels are used in Chinese medicine (Xing Ren) to stop coughing and wheezing and are used alone specifically for a dry cough, while they are mixed with other herbs to treat a productive cough. There has been some experimental work done on how Apricot Kernels can assist in cancer, but this work is still in the beginning phases and is not seen as a main stream alternative remedy as of yet.
